Prayer Letter

A Heart on Fire!

June is the month in which we honour Jesus under the image of "The Sacred Heart". Has your home a picture displaying the wonderful message of this Devotion? Perhaps you have also a little red lamp burning to celebrate the meaning and the call to love which is the heart of this Devotion. "Love one another as I have loved you" (John 13.34) puts this Devotion at the very core of the Gospel message.

We who seek to live in the blessing of Pentecost today and to experience the flame of fire which fell on the early disciples need to allow this image of Jesus to seize us and set us free to see an ever greater outpouring of the Spirit. Crowd out the Upper Room of these prayer meetings here in Monaghan and let the Spirit fall to convict us of three truths which are truly life-transforming.

Firstly, let us know that we are really loved by God. Of difficulties, ill health and all sorts of problems "we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us" (Romans 8:37). As we believe and act on this truth then our lives become reconciled to God's plan for us and we become the happiest people on earth.

Then too something wonderful happens. We cannot keep this love of God to ourselves. We have to give it away. We find, indeed, that this love so fills us that it overflows in our words and actions. This is joy upon joy because God does not pour out His Spirit by half measure (John 3:34). This second truth of the result of understanding this Devotion to the Sacred Heart gives us a foretaste of Heaven here on earth.

Finally, this fire of God's love which flows from His Sacred Heart creates a community where people feel loved, secure and blessed with the presence of God. Here there is outreach to the neighbour, to the poor, to the brokenhearted and those living without the hope of eternal life.

Go today and every day to pray under an image of the Sacred Heart for that Fire to keep falling.

Fr. Ronnie S.M.M.

THE DEVIL IS BEING DEFEATED!

"I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will strike your head, and you will strike his heel."(Gen.3:15) These scriptural words are being fulfilled in our days.

The faithful strike the head of the deceiver, the devil through the powerful intercession of the greatWoman mentioned in the scripture. Now we have easy access to our Lord through His Blessed Mother Mary. The powerful devil, who is lashing very strongly at the Church in Europe, and very specially the Church in Ireland, is being defeated by the blessed Mother who is the First Tabernacle who bore and carried the Redeemer of the universe. Through the sincere devotion of praying rosary, people find joy in being with the Lord.

This is well manifested in the fact that so many people are daily making a holy hour. I was, indeed, surprised to see people going to any nearby chapel to be with the Eucharistic Lord exposed in the Blessed Sacrament during the hours of the day. I am so much delighted to see how people realized the meaning and richness of this great act which is a powerful weapon against the forces of the evil ones.

We must pay heed to the warning of Scripture about the devil; "Discipline yourselves, keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour. Resist him, steadfast in your faith." (1 Peter 5:8-9) Let us lead a disciplined life after the model of Gospel values and be steadfast in our faith.

May the powerful presence and intercession of our Blessed Mother be experienced by all in our journey towards the Eternal Jerusalem. God bless you all abundantly.

A Blessed Month of May 2010

"Happy is the one who trusts in the Lord" (proverbs 16:20) being the theme of this year’s Novena celebration, it was well manifested that the people have realized how important and meaningful it is to trust in the Lord than to trust in the material things of this world.

The 26thMonaghan Novena of Our Lady of Fatima 2010 began on 1stMay 2010 at 7.30pm with a solemn out door procession around the St. Louis Convent Chapel at Monaghan followed by the inaugural Mass. From the 2nd till the 9th there were Holy Masses at 7.15 am every day except three days. TheMonaghan Charismatic Prayer Group arranged the whole program properly well in advance. The Holy Mass at 11 am and there after the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament till the evening 7.30pm was some thing remarkable of the Novena programme. I was really impressed by the fact that the people were so much interested in making silent adoration throughout the day. The opportunity for the sacrament of reconciliation was well utilized by the participants. The participation of the faithful for the evening rosary, Holy Mass and Novena was something very remarkable. The whole May Novena programme was concluded on 9th with a very solemn out door procession carrying the holy statue of Our Lady of Fatima praying the Holy Rosary by more than two hundred people. It was really amazing to see the faith and love of the ordinary faithful towards the mother of God.

Yours in Jesus and Mary
Fr. Benny Jacob.

I Never Found The Time
Could you not watch one hour with me

Every good relationship to survive needs to be given time, time for listening as well as time for talking, time for working as well as time for pleasure. So too must we find time for these things in our relationship with God if we are to have a living relationship with him.

Jesus never stops loving us and He is always there for us but it must be a two way relationship. God wants us to love Him as He loves us how painful it must be for Him if we are not returning His Love.

This little poem, author unknown, kind of brings it home.

I never Found Time

I knelt to pray but not for long
I had too much to do
I had to hurry and get to work
My bills would soon be due

So I knelt and said a hurried prayer
And jumped up from my knees,
My Christian duty was now done
My soul could be at ease.

All day long I had no time
To spread a word of cheer
No time to speak of Christ to friends
They’d laugh at me, I’d fear

No time, no time too much to do,
Was my constant cry
No time to give to souls in need
But at last the time the time to die.

I went before the Lord,
I came, I stood with downcast eyes
For in God’s Hands He held a book
It was the book of life.

God looked into His Book and said
Your name I cannot find
I meant to write it down
BUT I NEVER FOUND THE TIME.

Jesus wants us to spend time alone with Him As well as doing works for him. If we keep giving all the time, and do not spend time to receive from Jesus we will only be giving of ourselves not him and our own resources will soon be exhausted. We must come to the Water and drink before we can bring it to others. So As The Saying Goes...

IN HAPPY MOMENTS PRAISE GOD
IN DIFFICULT MOMENTS SEEK GOD
1N QUIET MOMENTS WORSHIP GOD
IN PAINFUL MOMENTS TRUST GOD
IN EVERY MOMENT THANK God
I am Sorry, Lord.

Lord Jesus, I am sorry for all the times I was so busy getting on with life that I forgot about You. For the times I was so wrapped up in my own worries that I forgot You were even there; for the times. I put all my trust in myself

And others and failed because I did not trust in You.

For all the times I passed by the Church and didn’t call in to spend a little time with You. For the times I got wrapped up in TV or sport or whatever, but had no time for You. For the times I read so much, but never once found time to read Your Word, the Bible.

Help me Lord to sit at your feet and listen to Your word. Grant me the wisdom to spend real time in prayer.

Thank You Jesus.

Papal Visit To The UK

The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI will visit England and Scotland on a four day papal visit from 16 - 19 September 2010.Please keep Pope Benedict XV 1 and the Bishops of England,Wales and Scotland in your prayers as they prepare for the first State Visit by a Pope to the UK. As part of his visit to the UK , our Holy Father will beatify the nineteenth century theologian and educationalist Cardinal John Henry Newman at a public Holy Mass in Coventry.

Cardinal Newman’s life was beset with trials and sufferings and offers us a powerful illustration of someone who indeed embraced the paschal mystery, who modelled his life on the suffering, dying and rising of Jesus, following faithfully the path of discipleship, wherever it might lead at whatever cost. At the height of his fame in Oxford, he preached a sermon that contains a sentence that his own life came to reflect quite remarkably.

He declared: The planting of Christ’s Cross in the heart is sharp and trying: but the stately tree rears itself aloft, and has fair branches and rich fruit and is good to look upon.We too, like him have to plant the tree of Christ’s Cross in our own hearts, let it put down deep roots. When we have done so, we discover that that stately tree does indeed grow tall and bears fruit and catches the eye. By embracing the paschal mystery we bear witness to the way disaster may be turned into triumph.

A Meditation
By Cardinal Newman

God has created me to do him some definite service. He has committed some work to me which he has not committed to another. I have my mission I may never know it in this life, but I shall be told it in the next.I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons. He has not created me for naught. I shall do good, I shall do his work. I shall be an angel of peace, a preacher of truth in my own place while not intending it if I do but keep His Commandments.

Therefore, I will trust Him. Whatever, wherever I am. I can never be thrown away. If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve Him, in perplexity. My perplexity may serve Him; if I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve Him. He does nothing in vain. He knows what He is about. He may take away my friends. He may throw me among strangers. He may make me desolate, make my spirit sink, hide my future from me still He knows what He is about.

Year of the Priests.
2009 - 2010.

As the year dedicated to our Priests draws to a close let us continue to pray for our priests , we pray that the holy Spirit will continue to protect and guide them and bless them with a new spirit of joy and confidence in proclaiming your name.

A Prayer for Priests

Keep them, I pray Thee, Dearest Lord
Keep them, for they are Thine
Thy priests whose lives burn out before
Thy consecrated shrine

Keep them, for they are in the world
Though from the world apart
When earthly pleasures tempt, allure
Shelter them in Thy heart.

Keep them, and comfort them in hours
Of loneliness and pain
When all their life of sacrifice
When all their life of sacrifice

Keep them, and O remember, Lord,
They have no one but thee,
Yet they have only human hearts
With human frailty.

Keep them as spotless as the Host
That daily they caress;
Their every thought and word and deed
Deign, dearest Lord, to bless.

THE PRIESTHOOD IS A MASTERPIECE OF CHRIST’S DIVINE LOVE WISDOM AND POWER.

Protected by Angels.

HE WILL ORDER HIS ANGELS TO PROTECT YOU WHEREVER YOU GO. Psalm 91: 11.

Every two weeks the missionary went to the city to purchase medical supplies for a small field hospital where he served. On one of his trips he saw two men fighting on the street. One was seriously injured so he stopped, treated his wounds and shared God’s love with him. Then he headed for home, stopping in the jungle to camp overnight.

When he visited the city two weeks later a man approached him; the same one he’d helped on his previous trip. The man said, I knew you carried money and medicine with you, so our gang followed you to your camp planning to kill you for the money and the drugs. But just as we were about to attack, we saw twenty six armed guards surrounding you. The missionary replied, No, that’s impossible; I was all alone. The man countered, but my buddies saw them too.We counted them. Months later when the missionary told this story back at his home church, a guy interrupted.

Exactly what day did this take place?. When the missionary identified the specific day the guy was amazed. He said, on that exact night in Africa it was morning here, and I felt a strange urge to pray for you. It was so strong that I phoned some folks to come to the church and pray with me. Would all of you who prayed with me that day please stand up ?.One by one the missionary counted them; twenty six, the exact number of the armed guards. The truth is : He will order his angels to protect you wherever you go.

O, Angel of God my guardian dear to
Whom God’s love commits me here
Ever this day / night be at my side
To light and guard rule and guide
Amen.

THE BURDENS OF LIFE

A monarch of long ago had twin sons. There was some confusion about which one was born first. As they grew to young manhood, the king sought a fair way to designate one of them as crown prince. All who knew the young men thought them equal in intelligence, with personal charm, health and physical strength. Being a keenly observant king, he thought he detected a trait in one which was not shared by the others.

Calling them to his council chamber one day, he said My sons, the day will come when one of you must succeed me as king. The burdens of sovereignty are very heavy. To find out which of you is better able to bear them cheerfully, I am sending you together to a far corner of the kingdom. One of my advisors there will place equal burdens on your shoulders. My crown will one day go to the one who first returns bearing his burden like a king should.

In a spirit of friendly competition, the brothers set out together. Soon they overtook an aged woman struggling under a burden that seemed far too heavy for her frail body. One of the boys suggested that they stop to help her. The other protested. We have a burden of our own to worry about. Let us be on our way.

The objector hurried on while the other stayed behind to give aid to the aged woman. Along the road, from day to day, he found others who also needed help. A blind man took him miles out of his way, and a lame man slowed him to a cripple’s walk. Eventually he did reach his father’s advisor, where he secured his own burden and started home with it safely on his shoulders. When he arrived at the palace, his brother met him at the gate, and greeted him with dismay. He said I don’t understand. I told our father the burden was too heavy to carry. However did you do it? The future king replied thoughtfully, I suppose when I helped others carry their burdens, I found the strength to carry my own.

PRAYER

Lord, you cured the man whose hearing and speech were impaired.
We praise your compassion for him and thank you for showing the same compassion to us.
Open our ears and our hearts to listen to you and to our neighbour;
Touch our lips and enable us to praise you and to speak truthfully
And lovingly to one another.

BORN for HEAVEN

A man found an eagle’s egg and put it in a nest of a barnyard hen. The eaglet hatched with the brood of chicks and grew up with them. All his life the eagle did what the barnyard chicks did thinking he was A barnyard chicken. He scratched the earth for worms and insects. He clucked and cackled. And he would thrash his wings and fly a few Feet into the air.

Years passed and the eagle grew very old. One day he saw a magnificent bird above him in the cloudless sky. It glided in graceful majesty among the powerful wind currents, with scarcely a beat on his strong golden wings. The old eagle looked up in awe.Who’s that? He asked: That’s the eagle, the king of the birds: said the neighbour. He belongs to the sky. We belong to the earth we’re chickens.

So the eagle lived and died a chicken, for that’s what he thought he was. We too are born for higher things. We are not earthbound creatures. Our destiny is Heaven.

Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola 31st July

Prayer of Surrender

Take, O Lord and receive my entire liberty, my memory,
My understanding and my whole will. All that I am and
All that I possess You have given me. I surrender it all to
You to be disposed of according to Your will.
Give me only Your love and Your grace: with these I
Will be rich enough, and will desire nothing more.

St. Ignatius of Loyola

All troubles of the Church.
All the evils in the world,
Flow from this source:
That men do not by clear and sound
Knowledge and serious consideration
Penetrate into the truths of Sacred Scripture
ALWAYS THERE

God is watching over you
He’s always at your side
Trust in Him to comfort you
To be your strength and guide
God is there to help you
To hear your every prayer
Remember you are not alone
God’s love is always there.
